Meet Liza

Grief is a personal and unique experience. It can be complicated by sudden and unexpected loss.  After such a loss, it can be difficult to get your bearings and find your way.

Loss of a spouse includes secondary losses as well:  Can I still live in my house?  Do I need to get a new or different job?   What does my future look like now?  It also impacts daily life in a very unique way.

I provide support for individuals, especially women in this situation, on their individual grief path.  I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to feel, to be heard, and to be seen -- things which can be difficult in our current culture.

My Story

I’ve learned a lot about grief in the last 5 years.  My husband died suddenly and unexpectedly, in a church parking lot, late afternoon of a beautiful spring day, the sun setting beneath the trees.  He had been playing the organ for mass only minutes earlier.  I still remember feeling the gentle breeze as I sat next to his body, praying the Hail Mary.

My world was pulled out from under me so suddenly and without warning, I was in shock for the first 2 years.

After passing through the dark night of the soul, slowly, slowly, I made my way to the surface….

I read so many books on grief, received help from an amazing grief counselor and two beloved spiritual mentors, practiced daily meditation, attended a life-changing retreat (the Path of Love), journeyed on the spiritual path, took sannyas (dedication to the spiritual path) and the spiritual name Ma Prem Amal.  I re-learned how to live in this world, with half of me missing.

My journey has culminated in the completion of a Grief Educator Certification training, taught by leading expert on death and grieving, David Kessler (see grief.com).   My hope is to now support others on their grief journey, especially women who have lost a spouse or life partner, helping them to ease their suffering and to find their way.

Modern culture does not give space for grief.  The enormity of loss is often glossed over.  However, grief lasts as long as love lasts.  We learn to integrate the grief, each in our own unique way, and then we heal.

"Grief requires us to courageously face and experience our pain, because avoiding it only prolongs our suffering.  By embracing our emotions and allowing ourselves to feel deeply, we navigate through the darkness toward a place of love.  This journey, though challenging, is where true healing and understanding begin."
